Lessons Learned

This year, taking SUPA Writing 105 has brought about so much new information for me both in and out of the classroom. I felt I had a lot more freedom in terms of my ideas, and the ways in which I conveyed them through my writing compared to classes I’d taken before. Although our schooling looked a lot different this year than it did in the past, I think we have all taken away something positive from this year. Attention to detail One of the most prominent lessons I feel this class has taught me is that attention to detail can make or break an idea, as well as the way it is conveyed within your writing. I have seen a huge amount of development in myself when it comes to my skills concerning how I gather my thoughts and organize them, resulting in what I view as a huge improvement in my writing, simply because I put in the effort to look a little closer at things. Mentor Blogs Plant based lifestyle Clean Food Dirty Girl is the work of Molly Patrick and Luanne Teoh, both from beautiful Hawaii. These women have come together to create a blog that focuses on a healthy, plant based lifestyle, including recipes, meal plans, and more. Patrick and Teoh make a visible effort to do good with the information they share on the blog, pushing a kind, no-judgement environment to learn about and play with different foods and recipes. My personal favorite part of Clean Food Dirty Girl was the photos, you can see how much effort they put into them and I think they all look really nice together on the blog. In our society today, we seem to have collectively created a specific, many times unattainable standard of beauty. From the increased presence of social media, to the modeling industry we have created this sort of mold of what it means to be beautiful, that has proved to be quite damaging to the self-image and mental health of a huge amount of people. It does not stop at looks though. Certain interests, activities, and other components of our lives are being judged too, some passing as normal and acceptable, while others are seen as strange and undesirable.
